This week we finished our common summative #2 that focused on 7RI5 - Text structure and 7RI8 - Evaluating an argument. We also continued using Flocabulary Word Up lessons to help build our vocabulary. I hope everyone has a wonderful winter break. I am so grateful for having a chance to work with such an awesome group of students and parents. Wednesday, January 6, 2021 will be the students first day back and my learning support session with focus on reading level goal setting using Fall Reading Inventory scores.
Happy Reading! This week we continued to focus on 7RI2 - Determining central ideas and writing an objective summary. Students learned a three step process on how to write an objective summary. We also completed our first common summative test for this quarter. Any student who was unable to finish the test during class was invited to attend my learning support session on Wednesday. If students still need to finish this common summative, they can come to my learning support session next week. Every Wednesday, I will host a learning support session from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Face to face students are invited to come to my office hours every Thursday from 4:30 p.m. - 5:15 p.m. Have a great weekend.
Happy Reading! Writing an Objective Summary Video This week was a short week since we only had class three days. We focused on 7RI2 - Determining central ideas and writing an objective summary. Students practiced determining central ideas using the WIN method. We also had a chance to visit the media center and check-out books. Finally, we ended the week by taking two formative assessments since we missed taking one last week due to school being cancelled. Please remember that all teachers have learning support sessions every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. My office hours have been updated and are now every Thursday from 4:30 p.m. - 5:15 p.m. Remote students can log on during this time to attend virtual office hours at the same time. Students started reading an article about social media and used metacognitive markers to interact with the text.
